Dragon Gods of Old

Ice dragon Raynor, the Warrior of Judgement
Ocean dragon Etro, keeper of souls
Fire dragon Aster, brightest star
Forest dragon Itzel, rainbow goddess

* Four siblings born from the love of the moon and sun

* Aster wants to be seen as the god he is. Thus creates, without his siblings permission all life on earth. Animals and beasts. Creatures to bow to him and love him.

* Raynor is pleased as these creatures and gives the world plants and food. Creating a circle of life for them. He also makes the three layers of the world. Land for gods. Soil for living and sea for the dead.

* Etro. Furious that her creation the sea becomes known as the place of the dead rebels towards her brothers, together with Itzel. The brothers punish their sisters by stripping them of their claws. Etro even of her wings. Sending her forever into the sea where she must guide the dead to their restingplace.

* Itzel takes action. Furious at her brothers behaviour and shapes humans from her venom. Creating them to rise higher than her brothers. Even gifting them fire so that Aster loses his single special gift.

* For this Aster and Raynor banish Itzel with an entire part of the mainland. Which had always been her home. Drifting the land down south. So that no mortal may ever find her again. Leaving her in absolute solitude to repent for her sins.

* To all creatures. Even humans. Raynor and Aster spread false truths about their sisters. Demonizing Etro. Making a devil out of her. While deleting Itzel from common memory.

* Humans begin to worship Aster most of all the creatures. Aster 'forgives' humans their original sin of being created itself, as long as they stay loyal to him.

* When humanity finally finds the south island of Itzel once more they see the Forest dragons as monsters. Deathbringers and beasts bend on destruction. No goddess could ever be seen in them again.

---------—--------—------------------

Shrines of the two male dragons are found all across the mainland. One shrine of Etro stands in the lakecity where she is seen as a good goddess and where the dragon belief shifts to worship of death.

People with the belief do not hold dragons as pets as these are holy beasts.

Dragonpriests however. Those spreading the word of dragons, speak of a bond with the beasts. Saying they can understand them. These Dragonpriests sometimes do own dragons to spread their belief with more force.

---------—--------—------------------

The Fire dragons are the creators. Forging the world with their fire.

The Ice dragons are the guardians.
Protecting the realms of men and gods

The Ocean dragons are the collectors of life.
Guiding souls to the underworld after death

Forest dragons are chaos bringers.
Punishing the evil and inpure.

Faith of the Sun

Sun Godess: Solistora (meaning sunrise)
Moon God: Solicarus (meaning sunset)

It is said that the world has been created when Solistora and Solicarus first touched. If they were ever to touch again, the world would be at it's end.

Solistora is the creator of all. From her infinite loneliness she first birthed Solicarus and shared her radiant light with him.

Falling in love with him they created the lands below them. Solicarus giving them the water of the sea to control, Solistora the light and warmth of her loving beams.

When creatures died, the children of the sun and the moon, they called them back towards them. Creating the stars to keep them close. Even though Solistora would never see them again, Solicarus would protect them, keeping them in his moonshine.

This faith is a dorment one. They do not wish wars upon other beliefs, they merely wish to warn those who do not see 'the signs of their god'

Starseers are those who can read the signs of the gods in the elements on earth. They explain the faith in the streets and warn for the end of days. These seers are very wise. Knowing the signs of the stars, the zodiac and the influence of the heavens in natural occurances.

Signs may include:

Falling star - Omen of death
Sunshine - Solistora is pleased
Hail - We have done wrong
Snow - We are straying too far from the goddess and left her warmth
Thunder - The goddess and her moon are mad
eclipse - The sun is seeking the moon, warning that she may end the life on earth
sun eclipse - The moon seeks out the earth, a dark sign for the end of days to come
Rainbow - Solistora has forgiven us
Clouds - Watch your step.
Rain - Solistora blessess us with harvest to come
Wildfire - Warning sign for specific person
Mist - you may have lost your way
Drought - Solistora is mad

The occurances may not alwas be send by the goddess for warnings. Only Starseers know exactly which storm is a warning, and which is to nuture the earth.

The dead of the faith are not burned like the bodies of the dragonfaith. Or buried like the unnamed faith. The bodies are left out in the sunshine. So that their soul may be free to run into the sky to join their eternal parents. The dead bodies are left till only their skeletons remain. These are burned and left to be taken away by the wind.

Faith of the Sun and Moon

In the land of Avalance, long before the reign of the new kings, the faith of the sun and moon was the only faith spoken of. Their glory and benevolence was all the known world was build on. Following is the story of the twins, sun sister Solistora and moon brother Solicarus and how they shaped the world as we know it.

Solistora and Solicarus once were one. Both sun and moon, one mind became two. Forging with their combined power the world below them. It is said that if the twins were to ever touch again, the world would come to an end as well.

Yet bringing the world to an end is not in the plans of the gods. After all, they created the world out of their love, Solicarus gave the earth the water to feed the plants of his sister and the power to control both fire and ice. Where Solistora shared her sun and it’s warmth with the living creatures she shaped after the image of her brother.

Once a creature, whether men or animal, has lived it’s live on earth and finds their peace in death the twins call the soul to them to shine in between them as a star, forever bright to look down on the world like a god itself. Even though Solistora would never see them again, Solicarus would protect them, keeping them in his moonshine. Their bodies, left on the world, will be buried under the moonshine. Feeding the world with the flesh and blood of the creature, completing the circle of life.

The twins brought their creatures weather so that they may enjoy the sunny days, but find their food replenished and winds to carry plants seeds to create new life of itself. Seasons to respect the circle of life and nights to rest their minds from the bright days. When they found humans who could read their signs, they created storms and cloud signs so that their will would be known. These humans became the Starseers we know today. They explain the signs to the followers of the faith. Warning those who won’t listen of the dangers that come from ignoring the will of Solistora and Solicarus. While spreading the old faith on corners of the streets, there are no wars in the plans of the starseers. They only wish to warn, not to force anyone into their belief. For they see that in the end the one true faith will prevail. In death, nonbelievers will see the truth of the sun and the moon. And be forgiven for their human foolishness.

The following is a list of possible sightings for Starseers. Though it is only known to those who practise in the name of their gods if the weather occurance is a sign or a mere coincidence. The same sighting may mean something different on different times and locations. Seasons and natural weather occurances are always taken into consideration by Starseers.

Rain - Solistora blesses us with harvest to come
Wildfire - Warning sign for specific person
Mist - you may have lost your way
Drought - Solistora is mad

Faith of Dragons

Born in the lands of Lavarr where dragons roamed for as long as human memory goes, the faith of Dragons has been brought along with the second kings to the lands of Avalance. This faith had long been dormant second to the faith fo the sun and moon. But grew in strenght of followers when the dragonkings took the throne. Nowdays the faith of Dragons, their divinity and  fear of their power, is known throughout Avalance as the true faith. Spoken in many corners of streets and  even has churches build in the glory of the four sibling dragons who shaped the world of Lavarr and Avalance. Churches build in the name of Aster, the dragon king and creator of the world.

A dark night, many many years ago, was the night the moon and sun gave birth to four dragon siblings. The oldest dragon brother a Fire Dragon named Aster, known as the brightest star, creator of the world and king of all creatures. His brother the Ice Dragon Raynor, the Warrior of Judgement, kept the peace between his siblings, loving them all equal. Sea Serpent Etro, keeper of souls, kept her silence. Protecting their younger sister when she was bullied but kept out of the trouble her elder brother made. The youngest dragon the forest serpent sister Itzel, Rainbow Goddess, could never keep her silence. Challenging Aster in every move and decision, standing firm against him when he, out of bordom, shaped the world we live in today.

Aster wanted nothing more than to be seen as the god he saw himself. He wanted to be worshipped and have loyal subjects fall at his knees. Without confiding in his siblings, he shaped life on the earth they lived on. Creating animals to bow for him. Feeding himself on them as well. Enjoying the fear the creatures had for him. Raynor, not pleased with the movement without speaking to him, but having a weak heart for the living creatures, created plants and thus food for the creatures. Shaping three layers of the universe so that there would be a order to life and death. He made the heavens for themselves. Gods above the earth, which was for the living beings and the sea for the dead. So that their souls would forever be bound below the ground.

Etro is furious that the one thing she made on the earth, her sea, becomes a place of death and destruction confides in Itzel for a trick to show the brothers that they shouldn’t have been so arrogant. They create human beings together, creatures with a will of their own and fire in their hearts. So that they may never follow the dragons or see them as the gods Aster wants them to be. Itzel gives them Fire to wield, sharing the holy power of Aster, while Etro shows them how to use  it so that ice may never be a danger to them.

This is seen by the brothers as betrayal and rebellion against all they wanted to create. Aster furious and Raynor heartbroken strip them both of their legs, Etro even of her talons and send them away. Etro to her sea where she must forever roam and guard the realm of the dead from the living. Itzel’s crime punished harder, forcing her into a jungle where she may never leave. Making humankind, her own creation, forget about her. So that she may never be seen as a goddess. Where Etro is still known today as the goddess of death. Aster spreads a false truth about his sisters while Raynor watches, his force for life gone with his sisters. All the Ice Dragon cares about now is the balance, leaving Aster to play with his subjects.

Humans, made as a rebellious act, begin to worship Aster most of all. Creating statues and buildings in his name. Etro is seen as a devil of kinds. A unknown Serpent who can swallow the world whole if she is ever let out of the dephts of the earth. Raynor is seen as the guardian of balance and Aster, Aster is the god he always wished to be. Only in the glade and the Highlands are his siblings more worshiped than he is. The highlands, the lands where his brother has taken his home, take the worship of Raynor above that of the other dragons. And in the Glade, the faith in Etro’s true visions and soul are worshiped. Even giving her a shrine in the capitol of the Glade, Sapphire Keep.

When humanity finally sets foot on the southern shorses of the poison jungle and meet the Jungle Serpents, they add the history of Itzel from the local talk. They see the Serpent as a monster, a bringer of evil and hate the beast just as Aster had always hoped she would be hated. With this hate in their hearts, Forest Serpents are not allowed on the mainlands of Avalance and Lavarr. The beasts are killed on sight by those with the faith, seeing them only as tricksters and harborers of death.

Nowdays, people with the faith of the Dragons still see the beasts as holy. Holding a dragon as a pet is an absolute absurdity. The only exceptions to this are the holy dragonriders. Who’s soul is connected to the dragon that chose them and the dragonpriests. Who use the holy beasts to spread their faith. Dragonpriests oversee all that happens inside the city. In most houses they hold a position of power and influence. Sharing their wisdom and that of their dragonlords with the lords and ladies. Dragonpriests also oversee the ritualistic burning of bodies, so that the bodies of those who have left the earth return to ashes in the fire that once created them.

Dragonriders

Dragonriders are often spoken about like war heroes. They lead fierce battles and often end up as conquerors. Their magic gives them a certain flair for drama. Seeking the same power and divinity dragons themselves hold which can often lead to madness and an early grave.

Dragonriding is officially seen as a magic, though it works a bit different from other born magics. The affinity for dragons, is a born gift. This gift is known to run in families, most obvious in our current royal line, but only through many trainings are riders able to hone their skills. A dragonrider is not specificly only known to ride dragons. While most Dragonriders do take riding as their 'gift', a rider is actually able to take any one specific skill and excell in this with ease. They become masters of this skill and outshine those who've trained for many years in it with the simplest of trainings. This can be anything, from swordsmanship to sewing.

Dragonriders bind themselves to one dragon. This dragon shares his/her own soul with the dragonrider. Making the mortal half dragonkin. Sometimes the binding of souls even shows on the surface. Giving the Dragonrider dragonlike eyes or in extreme cases even scales, in some cases even speak draconic to communicate with the beasts. These cases have not been seen for many hundreds of years however and the dragonparts would never precede 10% of a mortals body. Since a dragon's soul is linked to that of a dragonrider it is known that once a rider dies, the dragon dies. This goes both ways, once a dragon dies, their rider dies. For this fact, even though Dragonriders are officially protected by the Royal Family, many riders are being hunted and killed by those opposing the dragonfaith in childhood/early adulthood. As soon as their soul is linked to a dragon in order to slay the beasts more quickly and with less effort.

LEGENDS/MYTHS

The stag of Ironwood Forest
Deep within the Ironwood forest lives a white Stag. A gorgeous creature with a coat of snow, with vines and spider webs twisted between his ancient antlers. This creature is the wisdom and hope of the world. Living in peace and seeking nothing more than to grant those who pass him a wish.

You get one wish once you have found this creature, even if you seek many, many years for his wisdom. Treat him with respect, and he may even share his infinite wisdom with you, giving you power and knowledge beyond imagination. But try and kill the beast and you will be damned to a life of bad luck and shame. You will fall from your mighty throne and live your life in the dirt. If you manage to kill the beast, every single wish you've ever made, both good and bad, will be granted.

Kingsbane
Deep down in the black waters of the Sea of the Serpent lives the most deadly monster known to mankind. She has claimed a soul for each year she has lived.  She has killed many kinds of people, from poor maidens to wealthy pirates, but seems to have a special appetite for kings. Legend goes that she has killed five already, if not more...

Her name is unknown but her long, fiery red, hair is well known throughout the land. She is called the Kingsbane, a Siren with a lust for those of royalty. No one seems to be able to escape her, once she has picked them as her prey. Once your eyes meet hers, your fate has been chosen. Once she has acquired her victim, she pulls them into the depths of the waters, where she takes their crown, coin and gold. In your last moments, all you will hear is the ripping of your chest as she takes your heart from your chest while it is still beating.

TRIVIA

  • The beginning of each seaon is celebrated throughout the land. Originating from the sun and moon faith, now a get together for those of noble and common birth. Celebrated with drinks and many foods.

  • Mid January is the celeberatory birth night of the dragongod Aster. In this night many will light candles and fires to celebrate the life of the dragongods who created the world and shaped human beings.

  • Meat consumers are found more in the north of the Glade and the Highlands. In the South part of the Glade, the Crownlands and Evergreen are those who farm for fruits and vegetables. Living of the land more than of the flesh of animals. Leaving the rich meats for the rich and feasts.

Bestiary
Following is a list of the beasts found within the realm of Avalance. It is important to take note of where which creature lives, so that your character won't find animals where they would not naturally be able to survive. There are many creatures in Avalance which do not live in our own world. These creatures are considered beasts. Fantastic animals straight from fantasy and lore, which make avalance their home. These creatures are to be respected, and not able to become pets of your character. Treat these beasts with the respect they deserve or your character may find that the end of his life comes soon..

Dragons
In the world of Forged in Fire, there are a few different types of dragons that roam or have roamed the land. This short guide will explain the differences between these beasts and where they are said to live. Most information comes from old myths and legends, as well as the occasional rare sighting. It is up to the people to take from this what they see as truth.

FIRE DRAGON
Fire dragons, or wyverns, are the best known among the dragon types. These are the creatures that originate from the fires that created the world. Fire dragons, as their name implies, can spit fire. They have back legs, but their front legs are merged with their wings, causing them to have a bat like appearance when walking around on the ground. These dragons are the ones that grow the largest out of the four types, but it also takes a long time for them to grow. Example: Game of Thrones

ICE DRAGON
Ice dragons appear in myths and legends, but are less well known than their fire breathing cousins. They are the dragons of the far north, sighted where the land turns to ice. These dragons often have scales as white as the fresh winter snow, with a pale blue hue. They have four legs, as well as a set of large wings. They cannot spit fire, however they have a deadly frost breath, which is just as lethal, causing cold burns and freezing. Ice dragons, when fully grown, are quite large, but not as big as the fire dragons can get. They grow up a bit faster, because of their unforgiving homeland. Example: Eragon

FOREST SERPENT
Forest serpents, or Amphiptere, are a very mysterious kind of which not much is known. Their territory consists of the dense rainforests of the Poison Jungle, where they glide between trees and disappear easily in the heavy foliage. Forest serpents are graceful and agile creatures. Their bodies are long and they have no legs, only a set of wings to carry them through the sky. Their long tails are sometimes used to hang from branches and their scales are often vibrant colours mixed with the greens of the rainforest. Their natural weapon is the venom they spit with deadly precision, which works like acid and burns away all organic material. Forest serpents are the smallest type of dragons, they can remain fairly small or grow larger to a medium size. They grow up relatively fast, because most don't grow as large. Example: Amphiptere dragons

SEA SERPENT
Sea serpents are the dragon type that lives deep under the ocean surface. Their territory is said to cover all of the large water bodies in the world, causing everyone to know at least a tale or two about them. However, there are not many who have actually seen one and lived to tell the tale. Sea serpents can hide away in the depths of the ocean whenever they like. They have no legs and no wings and their scales are often coloured in hues of blue and green. They have a pattern of scales which they can light up in the dark, luring in travellers and other sea creatures. Sea serpents can grow very large, but no one has ever managed to measure one to compare them to the other dragons. Example: Sea serpent dragons

CAPTIVE DRAGONS
While dragons are known to be wild beasts that roam the lands, sometimes even referred to as gods, there are some that were tamed throughout the history of Forged in Fire. The most common way for this to happen is for a dragonrider to have found an egg and help it hatch, meaning the dragon grew up in captivity. Taming a wild dragon that is already grown naturally is a much harder task, taking much more patience. It can be done, but it is really dangerous and the bond between dragon and dragonrider will never be as strong as with a hatched egg. When a dragon is kept in captivity within a restricted area, to keep it safe or to keep it from harming others, it will cease growing. If it does not get enough freedom in its early years it will remain small. Aside from this, a dragon that is kept in a dark place underground will enter a stasis like sleep, meaning it can survive for a very long time while needing little attention. While in this stasis it will not grow and stay how it was when it entered it. A dragon that is woken from this state will recover quite quickly.

Dire Wolves
On first sight, a Dire Wolf may seem like just a bigger version of a wolf. But once seen up close the differences are more clearly noted, not that you want to see them up close. Dire Wolves are an average of 150-170cm in height and 80-120kg in weight, making them almost an meter higher and nearly twice as heavy as a normal wolf. Their bones are thicker and the head wider and larger. Making his bite more deadly than any land animal known to mankind. The dire wolf's teeth didn't only slice through the flesh but also have a "bone-crushing" canid, extracting the maximum nutritional value from its meals by crushing its prey's bones and eating the marrow inside.

Direwolves hunt in packs. Mostly seen in the North itself but sometimes, when the abyss freezes over come down as south as the Silver Tear and the Cursed Reach. Not all the wolves always make it back up north in time for the thaw to set in, making a few small packs live permenantly in the White woods and the landscapes of the Highalands. The pelts of these creatures sells for a pretty penny and along with driving back the dangers of these monster wolves they are nearly hunt to extinction.

Unicorns
Down in the forests of the Crownlands and Evergreen, hidden between the trees and bushes, you may see a glittering white pelt, shining just a bit brighter than that of any horse you have ever seen. This is the coat of a Unicorn. If you are in luck that is. Only differentiating themselves in appearance from a horse by their long horn placed inbetween their eyes, cloven hooves, an ever pearly white fur and a tuft of hair under their mouths. The real power comes from within, Unicorns are known to heal wounds and clean (poisoned) water.

Unicorns, opposite of normal horses, live on their own, only coming together during mating season once every few years. A Unicorn only gets a foal every 3 years, teaching their offspring all the way into adulthood before leaving them to find their own home in the woods. If a foal dies within those three years, a Unicorn will never bear a foal again, often even ending their own lives, too heartbroken to live on. Because of this the crown has forbidden hunting mares who have a foal, wanting to somewhat keep the balance of the population. This however doesn't stop those who want to sell the horns for a good price as many still believe the horn itself is the magical item, not the whole beast who owns it.

Sirens
If you were ever told that the maidens of the seas were beautiful and peaceful, you were told wrong. From the surface Sirens may seem to be creatures of innocence, their long flowing hair dangling on the water as they beckon you to come closer. But move closer to the water and their face falters, revealing the demonic face they truly hold before gripping you tight and pulling you down to the depths to feed on your souls. Sirens have a preference for males, but do not shy away from ladies who entered ships, no one is safe once  a Siren opens her mouth and sings.

The Siren song is known thoughout the lands, even though they are only seen in the Depths of Etro and the Sea of the Serpent. Their voices numbing the minds of sailors making them willingly jump into the waters. Little is figured out about how and why Sirens feed on humans, even how Sirens live is an mystery. Some speak about whole kingdoms under the sea, sea kings and queens with the Sea Serpents as their pets. This is considered just myth. 'there has never been a crown upon a sirens head, nor a male siren seen in history', is often the answer to these myths. Alchemists and experts are still looking for more knowledge about these monsters.

Dragonriders are often spoken about like war heroes, mostly because it was a dragonrider and her dragon that saved the kingdom of Avalance in the past. Dragonriders are known to lead fierce battles and often end up as conquerors. Their gift gives them a certain flair for drama. Seeking the same power and divinity dragons themselves hold which can often lead to madness and an early grave.

Dragonriding is not officially seen as a magic, although because those who possess the gift are never known to have affinity to any known types of magic, some do categorize it as one. The affinity for dragons is a inherited gift. It is known to run in families, most obvious in the current royal line, but only through many trainings are riders able to hone their skills. Many dragonriders know only that they are by feeling and instinct, not knowing for sure until they meet a real dragon. They often have dreams of dragons, sometimes even feeling like prophecies leading them to the regal beasts. Long ago there were many who owned their own tamed dragons, nowadays dragons are a rare sight and a dragon with a dragonrider ever rarer.

Dragonriders are bound to one type of dragon. Meaning they can only tame the type that is bound to them. Finding out what type can be a hassle sometimes, but there is one way to know for sure, for a dragonrider is immune to the natural weapon his or her dragon type possesses. This means someone bound to Ice dragons cannot be harmed by their frostbreath, and those of the Forest Serpents will not dissolve when coming in contact with their acid like venom. They can still be killed by the other types and even by their own type of dragon. The best way for them to train a dragon is to get their hands on an egg and help it hatch themselves, raising the dragon from infancy. Grown wild dragons are dangerous and will never be as docile as their human raised counterparts. It are often these wild dragons that become the undoing of a dragonrider, thinking they are safe because of their gift, but forgetting a dragon has more than just its breath.

Dire Wolves

On first sight, a dire wolf may seem like just a bigger version of a wolf. But once seen up close the differences are more clear (not that you should have any desire to see them up close). Dire Wolves are an average of 150-170cm in height and 80-120kg in weight, making them almost a meter higher and nearly twice as heavy as a normal wolf. Their bones are thicker and their head is wider and larger, making its bite more deadly than any land animal known to mankind. The dire wolf's teeth do not just slice through the flesh but also have a "bone-crushing" canid, extracting the maximum nutritional value from its meals by crushing its prey's bones and eating the marrow inside.

Dire wolves hunt in packs. They are mostly seen far up North, but sometimes, when the Frozen Abyss freezes over, new wolves come down as far south as the Silver Tear and the Cursed Reach. The few packs that live in Avalance permanently, the wolves of White Wood being the most notorious, benefit from these harsh winters to keep the population fresh and avoid too much inbreeding. The pelts of these creatures sell for a pretty penny and along with the danger they cause to any humans that live close by, the wolves are nearly hunted into extinction.

Unicorns

Down in the forests of the Crownlands and the Evergreen, hidden between the trees and bushes, you may see a glittering white pelt, shining just a bit brighter than that of any white horse you have ever seen. This is the coat of a unicorn. If you are in luck that is. Differentiating themselves in appearance from a horse by their long horn placed in between their eyes, cloven hooves, a pearly white fur and a lion like tail. Their real power comes from within, unicorns are known to have the gift to heal wounds and clean (poisoned) water.

Unicorns, opposite to normal horses, live on their own, only coming together during mating season once every few years. A unicorn only gets a foal every 3 years, raising their offspring all the way into adulthood before leaving them to find their own home in the woods. If a foal dies within those three years, a unicorn will never bear a foal again, often even ending their own lives, too heartbroken to live on. Because of this the crown has forbidden hunting mares who have a foal, wanting to keep the population balanced. This however doesn't stop those who want to sell the horns for a good price as many still believe the horn itself is the magical item, not the beast that wears it.

Sirens have a preference for males, but do not shy away from ladies who entered ships, no one is safe from the siren's song.

The siren song is known throughout the lands, even though they are only found in the Rift, the Depths of Etro and the Sea of the Serpent. Their voices numb the minds of sailors, for them to willingly jump into the waters. Little is known about how and why sirens feed on humans, even how sirens live and where they came from is an mystery. Some speak about whole kingdoms under the sea, sea kings and queens with the Sea Serpents as their pets. This is considered just myth. 'There has never been a crown upon a sirens head, nor a male siren seen in history', is often the answer to these tales. Alchemists and experts are still looking for more knowledge about these beautiful monsters.

Faith of the Sun and Moon
In the kingdom of Avalance, long before the reign of the New Kings and the Old, the faith of the sun and moon was the only known faith. Their glory and benevolence was all the known world was build on. Their was the story of the twins, sun sister Solista and moon brother Yunuen and how they shaped the world as is now known to man.

Solista and Yunuen once were one, separating to become the sun and moon and bring the world light and darkness, fire and ice. With their power they forged the world below them. It is said that if the twins were to ever become one again, the world would come to an end as well. Yet bringing the world to an end was not what the gods had planned for the world. After all, their love for it sprung the waters and the plants, the earth and the people. Where Solista shared her warmth with the living creatures, Yunuen gifted them the rains and a light in the darkness.

Once a creature, whether men or animal, has lived it’s live on earth and finds its peace in death, the twins call its soul to them to shine in between them as a star in the night sky. Even though Solista would never see them again, Yunuen protects them, bathing them in his moonshine. Their bodies, left on the world, will be buried under the moon. Feeding the world the flesh and blood of the creature, completing its life circle.

When the twins found out humans could read their signs, they created storms and cloud signs to guide their people. These humans became the Starseers we know today. They can read the signs and explain what they see to the untaught people, warning those who won’t listen of the dangers that come from ignoring the will of Solista and Yunuen. While the Starseers do not shy away to spread their fate in the streets, they do not wage war against non believers. Theirs is a gentle belief, which warns rather than forces people to follow them. In death, non believers will finally glance upon the truth of the sun and moon and be forgiven for their human foolishness.

The following is a list of possible signs that can be read by Starseers. The same sighting may mean something different on different times and locations. Seasons and natural weather occurrences are always taken into consideration by Starseers.

Falling star - Omen of death

Sunshine - Solista is pleased

Hail - Something is wrong

Thunder - The gods are mad

Eclipse - The moon seeking out the sun, warning the end of the world may be near

Rainbow - Solista has forgiven us

Rain - Yunuen blesses the harvest to come

Wildfire - Warning sign for specific person

Mist - You may have lost your way

Born in the western continent of Lavarr, where dragons have roamed the skies for as long as human memory goes, the faith of Dragons came to Avalance with the arrival of the New Kings. This faith had long been dormant second to the faith of the Sun and Moon but grew in strength when the Dragon Kings took the throne. Nowadays the faith of Dragons is known throughout Avalance as the true faith and that of the Crown. Aside from people preaching about the dragon Gods, breathtaking temples and shrines have been build in honour of the four sibling Gods that shaped the world of Lavarr, Avalance and Yax'in. Most of these buildings are dedicated to Aster, the God of fire and creator of the world.

Ages ago, on a dark night, the moon and sun gave birth to four dragon siblings. The oldest dragon brother, a fire dragon named Aster, became known as the brightest star, creator of the world and king of all creatures. His younger brother, the Ice Dragon Raynor, became the Warrior of Judgement and kept the peace between his siblings, loving them all equal. Sea dragon Etro, keeper of souls, was a silent once, always protecting her younger sister but staying out of the trouble her brothers caused. The youngest dragon, the forest dragon sister Itzel, the Rainbow Goddess, was the opposite of her sister Etro and very rebellious in nature. Challenging Aster on every move and decision, standing firm against him when he, out of boredom, shaped the world we live in today.

Aster, being quite full of himself, wanted nothing more than to be worshipped. Without confiding in his siblings, he gave shape to living things. Animals were created to be feasted upon, standing below the mighty dragon siblings. Aster revelled in the fear he instilled in the creatures he had created. Raynor was not pleased with his brother's decision but having a weak heart for the living creatures, created plants to feed them. It was Raynor who gave shape to the three layers of the universe so that there would be a order to life and death. He made the heavens for themselves. The earth was gifted to the creatures and the deep waters of the sea for the dead, that their souls would forever be bound below the ground.

Etro was furious that the one thing she made, her sea, became the place of death and destruction. She confided in Itzel to trick their brothers and teach them not to be so arrogant. Together they created humans, creatures with a will of their own and fire in their hearts, so that they would never follow the dragons or see them as the gods Aster wanted them to be. Itzel gave them Fire to wield, sharing with them the holy power of Aster, while Etro showed them how to use it so that ice would never be as great a danger to them.

Of course the brothers saw this as a betrayal and rebellion against all they had wanted to create. Aster was furious and Raynor heartbroken. The brothers stripped both the sisters of their legs and Etro of her wings, as a punishment for coming up with such a trick. Both sisters were send away. Etro to the sea where she had to roam forever and guard the realm of the dead. Itzel was punished by sending her away to the jungles of the south, a place she could never leave again and making her own creation forget about her as a goddess. Etro became known as the goddess of death. While Raynor watched in silence as Aster spread false stories about his sisters, his only wish for the world to keep the fragile balance, leaving Aster to play with his subjects.

Humans, created in a rebellious act, began to worship Aster most of all because of the lies he has fed them, creating statues and buildings in his name. Meanwhile Etro is depicted as an evil that can swallow the world if she would ever be released upon the lands. Raynor became the guardian of balance, while Aster was the god he always wished to be. The highlands, the lands where Raynor brother had taken his home, take the worship of the ice dragon above that of the other dragons. And in the Glade, the faith in Etro’s true visions and soul are worshipped. Even giving her a shrine in the capitol of the Glade, Sapphire Keep.

When humanity finally set foot on the southern shores of Yax'in and met the Forest Serpents, they remembered the fourth sibling, Itzel. While the people from Yax'in do not necessarily see Itzel as evil, but the people from Avalance were less forgiving. With Aster's hate in their hearts, forest serpents were banned from the mainlands of Avalance and Lavarr. The beasts are killed on sight by those with the faith, seeing them only as tricksters and harbourers of death.

Nowadays, people with the faith of the Dragons still see the beasts as holy. Dragonriders are considered chosen by Aster, and their soul is connected to the dragon that chose them. Dragon priests oversee all that happens inside the city. In most houses they hold a position of power and influence. Sharing their wisdom and that of their Dragon Gods with the lords and ladies. Dragon priests also oversee the ritualistic burning of bodies, so that the bodies of those who have left the earth return to ashes in the fire that once created them.
